What stays on your phone
Your reminders, birthdays, notes, any photos you add to a birthday, and your settings are stored on your device. They are not uploaded to us and we cannot read them.
iCloud
If you are signed in to iCloud, the app backs your reminders, history and any birthday photos up to your own private iCloud account, so they survive a reinstall or a new phone. That data sits in your iCloud storage under Apple's terms. We have no access to it, not the contents, not the fact that it exists.
You can turn backup off under Settings → iCloud in the app. Turning it off stops this backup; the reminder service described below can still process delivery and scheduling data when its features are enabled. You can also make your own copy using Export on the Data & Backup screen.
The reminder service
To make a countdown start on your Lock Screen without you opening the app, the app talks to a small service we run. It uses delivery and scheduling data without receiving your reminder text or contact details. It stores:
- A random identifier generated on your device the first time the app runs. It is not linked to your name, your email, your Apple Account or your device's advertising identifier.
- A random secret, stored only as a one-way hash, so nobody else can send notifications to your phone.
- Tokens Apple issues that let notifications and Live Activities reach your device.
- For each pending reminder: a random identifier, scheduling times and whether it is a reminder or birthday.
- Technical delivery records, such as delivery attempts, status codes and error reasons, used to operate and troubleshoot the reminder service.
No reminder text, no names, no contacts, no locations and no message content ever reach that service. When a countdown appears on your Lock Screen the words in it are filled in on your phone, not sent from us.
Pending scheduling records are removed after delivery or when they are cancelled or expire. Turning off Live Activities in the app's Settings removes the registered delivery identifiers and pending scheduling records from the service. Technical delivery logs are separate from those records.
What we do not do
- No analytics, no tracking pixels, no advertising and no advertising identifiers.
- No third-party trackers or SDKs of any kind.
- We do not sell or rent your data or share it for advertising. Reminder delivery uses Apple and Cloudflare services to process the delivery and scheduling data described above. Your reminder text and contact details are not sent to our reminder service.
- We do not build a profile of you and cannot, since we do not know who you are.
Contacts and photos
If you add a photo to a birthday, it is stored on your device and in your own iCloud backup. A phone number you select for the Call or WhatsApp action is not sent to our reminder service. Choosing an action opens the call or WhatsApp chat; the call or messaging service then handles that interaction under its own terms and privacy policy.
Notifications
The app asks permission to send notifications, because a reminder that cannot notify you is not a reminder. You can withdraw that at any time in iOS Settings.
Payments
Subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple. We never see your card details, your billing address or your Apple Account. Apple tells us only that a subscription is active.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has used the app and you need help removing reminder-service records, contact us at hello@thenudgemonster.com.
Your rights
Deleting the app removes its local app data. To remove registered delivery identifiers and pending scheduling records from the reminder service, turn off Live Activities in Settings before deleting the app. Contact us for help with service records or your privacy choices. Your private iCloud backup is managed separately in your Apple account.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects you, the updated date at the top changes and the new version appears here.
