The pitch · copy-ready

One line

Nudge Monster combines live Lock Screen countdowns, optional Monster alarms, and birthday preparation in one iPhone app.

100 words

Nudge Monster is a reminder app for people who swipe reminders away and forget them anyway. Instead of another notification in a stack, it puts a live countdown on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island as a deadline approaches, and it can start remotely when the app is closed, subject to connectivity and system settings. When something really can't be missed, Monster mode fires a real system alarm that rings through silent mode and Focus when alarm permission is enabled.

It also reads birthdays from Contacts, warns you the night before, and suggests gifts a fortnight ahead. Task names never leave your phone.

40 words

Nudge Monster is a reminder app for people who dismiss reminders. A live Lock Screen countdown keeps the deadline visible, and Monster mode rings a real alarm through silent mode when alarm permission is enabled. Free, with an optional Pro subscription.

What makes it different · two things

01

A countdown that stays on screen

As a deadline approaches, the reminder becomes a Live Activity, a running countdown on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. It is not buried in a list you have to open, and it does not depend on you catching a banner. The Live Activity starts itself through a push-to-start notification even when the app has been closed for days, and re-arms after iOS retires it.

02

Monster mode is an alarm, not a notification

Monster mode uses AlarmKit to fire a genuine system alarm. It rings through silent mode, through Focus, and through Do Not Disturb, when alarm permission is enabled. It is an optional mode for each reminder.

Birthdays, from Contacts

Pulls birthdays straight out of Contacts. Warns you the night before so you can send a message at midnight, and offers a gift reminder a fortnight ahead, when there is still time to actually buy something. Call the person or open a WhatsApp chat directly from the reminder pop-up.

Hall of Shame

Everything you ignored, kept in one place. It is the honest counterpart to the on-time stats, and the reason the app is called what it is.

Widget, repeating reminders, export

A Home Screen widget, repeating reminders, on-time statistics, full history, export and import of your data as a file, and automatic iCloud backup.

What leaves the phone · almost nothing

Reminders are personal by nature, what you owe, who you owe it to, what you are avoiding.

Nudge Monster is built so that none of that is ever sent anywhere. Waking a Live Activity requires a push, and that push carries device delivery tokens, random identifiers, scheduling times, and technical delivery records. Reminder text and contact details are not sent to the push service.

Why I built it · in Avinash's words

I missed my sister's birthday this year. That is the part I still think about, I had spoken to her the day before, and we had talked about her birthday in that call. I knew. It just wasn't in my head on the morning it mattered, and by the time it came back to me the day was gone.

That is the whole problem, and it isn't a memory problem. Reminders don't fail because you didn't know. They fail because knowing something on Tuesday and remembering it on Wednesday are two different things, and a notification you swipe away at nine in the morning is not going to help you at six in the evening.

Our memory is short. Fine. But that shouldn't be the reason someone close to you doesn't hear from you on their day. So I built the reminder that stays on the screen, and the alarm that won't let you swipe it away.

Reminders don't fail because you didn't know.

Short version, for a caption or an email

I built this because I missed my sister's birthday this year, a day after we had spoken about it on the phone. I knew. I just wasn't thinking about it when it counted. That gap between knowing and remembering is the entire reason the app exists.
